@Rends With Tongue: The statue looks excellent, I just wish you would have uploaded/submitted a video instead to show the dry ice in action! The whole tube emitting dry ice thing is an awesome concept, but unless people saw your post in this thread about that mechanism, it's hard to tell that it even comes from the statue with just a static image.
@Odinius: So much stuff, and it all looks great! I've enjoyed seeing your progress. The final image, though, is too cluttered, I think. I wanted to see the entire set complete, but all the individual images scattered around that large image makes it hard to really get a feel for the set's brilliance.
Oh and all of the costumes are awesome!

Since I'm on a roll with learning SAI, I'm starting a Wintersday picture now.
We'll be quite busy in December, so it's extra good to have it done before.
I'll save progress screenies as well.
@Kiya: Remember the idea from last year? Well, I'm gonna be doing it now Yay!

I think that you nailed the real problem there Shew: "So much stuff".
The complete set is 24" wide and 16" high and still too small to give each item a proper display.
There were even more items/characters coming untill I realized that they wouldn't fit the set.
Making only three or four shots of the set wouldn't show all the little detais I put in there and got a little carried away with wanting to show them all.
Having it as a physical display works far better because you can look around it and see new stuff from every angle.
That background though shouldn't be there looking at it now, usually I take about five different final images and choose carefully which to take and tweak before posting/submitting.
This year though with the early deadline looming, I frankly ran out of time a lot sooner than expected.
I finished the set about 11am(Europe) and set up for shots, but the camera I was using didn't work properly and had to go out to borrow one from a friend which after returning home only worked for about 10 shots before the battery died.
Ended up taking shots with the Iphone and selected everything I wanted in the final image.
It took me about an hour for that final collage and it was already 3:30 pm here and I had to leave for work at 4pm (still 5 hours before the deadline, but no chance for me to work on it)
Not completely happy I thought, oh well it's this or nothing and submitted.
For wintersday I'll try to make detailed but less stuff which can be focussed on certain angles to take better shots.
For now I'll revise my final shot for the workshop entry.
Thanks for all your positive feedback people!

Well, here was my final entry.
Not sure it was the right decision. I do have some news that those birds that started eating it are now dead. Still wish I could have got some pumpkins in.

Thanks. Well, the dry ice part of the plan fell to pieces when I got ready to take pictures; I had even tested and sized things, and they worked great. But as soon as I started setting up and insert the tube, I noticed that the aluminum foil that I had used to bulk up the statue, was balled up inside of the shaft---and I could not get it out. Even after inserting and removing the tube and dowel many times over carefully, something had happened and I could no longer do as I had intended.
I have a few good test shots I'll post when I get home today that show the smoke much better; unfortunately I had to either hold the machine up around the statue or hide it behind it, and none of the shots that I took after that were very good. It was a pretty big disappointment when it came down to it. It would have been an interesting idea to snap a short little video of it although I'm not sure I would have thought to do that.

@Rends with Tongue: Ah, I got it. Shame it didn't work out the way you wanted, but it looks cool nonetheless.
@Aviator: If that's edited Assassin's Creed concept art, you're not gonna win anything in the official contest 'cause it's copyrighted. Just sayin'. Maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me.

I didn't make it to the official contest, so GL x1000 to everyone who did! I'm still in it for the workshop though.
Real life... Why does it always get so busy right before these things are due... I was also having trouble making the tonics and alcohol bottles, so that's another "meh."
I was being frustrated with RL and bottle making and a little disappointed that I didn't make it to the official contest, so I decided to draw something to kill the stress off and have some fun. Next thing I realize, I have something that could pass for an entry (though it's still unfinished). I might actually stick with this drawing instead.
WIP Gallery: http://imageshack.us/g/220/gwhalloweencontest11cop.jpg/
I currently have 2 versions: one with wings in the front (consistent with costume design), and one without wings (can see costume better). I'm not sure which one looks better, so if someone could give me some input on those, that'll be helpful.
Reminder to self: I need to tell my boyfriend that I used his necro for entry...

@satomz
The poses of your characters are really awesome! I especially like his hand on her back, therefore i think you should go for the wing-less version! I think a bit of creative freedom on the costume is allowed
@Death By An Arrow
Your finished painting looks awesome! The colours and the pose are very nice !

Fuuuuhhhh.... I had a really long message all typed out and accidentally hit...some hotkey combo that closed my browser.
Okay....
@satomz: I also think the wingless version is better, making his hand on her back clearer that this is a moment of intimacy. Before I saw that one, I was uncertain if he was pulling her close or fixing to attack her with that green glowy magic.
Also, try lidding his eyes a little so it appears that he's looking down at her, further enhancing the intimacy. Right now, he's looking somewhere over the top of her head.
Lastly, if you stick with the wingless version, try uncrooking her right arm a little (so that only the back of her upper arm is visible), which will make it appear more like she's pulling him close, too. Right now, both her elbows are in a bit of a "pushing away" position (the left one is fine, though, taking into account body angle).

So we were out and about today at the craft store (my brother is making his girlfriend an ewok costume for her dog, who is quite honestly an ewok. She growls like an ewok, looks like an ewok. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...) and they had framses for 40% off. If my painting had been JUST smaller (16x20in) I could have gotten a super fancy mahogany red/black wooden frame for even cheaper than what I got (they were the same price, but 50% off). Ohwell, still looks nice. need to matte it though.
I think the part of this piece i'm most proud of is I didn't use pure black once, outside of the necklace. Something i know is a good thing but always tell myself "No, its okay. it looks good when you use it." Suck on that conscience!
Edit: When should we expect the results? Does anyone remember the time between last year's deadline to the announcement? I know Charlie delayed it by quite a bit, but they should be ready this time so it should be even sooner. I'm only a little excited :|

you should put a black paper thing around it ... which i don't know the english name for, nor the dutch atm :/ ... but it basically covers the edges to 'frame' any art within the frame ... that would prolly look great

Arghore, that's the matting I said I needed This is it's sort of temporary state until I can get some. I don't know if I need a big black sheet, or if it would be cheaper to get a border of it instead (i.e. a full sheet vs. a sheet with a rectangle cut outof the middle).
